The Ninja Strikes Again

Bruce Bowen has absolutely no shame. With all the drama surrounding dirty play in this series, you would think he might take a day off from his kicking, kneeing, elbowing ways. Nope. I haven't been watching this game as closely as others (mainly because the NBA is siphoning my interest daily), so I probably missed a few Gangsta Bowen moments, but I hope someone YouTube's the play with 45 seconds to go in the third quarter. You see Bowen getting ready to guard Nash and then all of a sudden Kurt Thomas kind of stumbles. My first though was: no way Bowen would do something at midcourt; Thomas must have just tripped. I was wrong. Looking at it again, you can see Bowen kick Thomas right in the shin with his left leg. Classic! What audacity. Everyone is talking about this guy being the dirtiest player in the league and then he tries to give Thomas the Johnny Lawrence "sweep the leg" move right in front of everyone.

Bruce Bowen might not have a soul.

What about his tripping of Nash when he hit the go ahead 3 at the end? Watch the replay, he kicks his leg out and trips Nash into his bench. He is the Dick Cheney of the NBA...

"mainly because the NBA is siphoning my interest daily"

I couldn't agree more; thank goodness baseball is on.

I can't wait for Spurs fans to get on here and start defending Bowen. You know, if a dude isn't related to you, there is no obligation to defend him. Just so you know. Stern needs to "suggest" an 18-month hiatus for Bowen, ala Gambling Jordan.

Totally agree with the "NBA siphoning my intrest daily" Even though the Suns were leading for most of the game, watching this game was like having a bad nightmare, I just felt sick to my stomach. Maybe it was because i thought that the Suns wouldn't be able to hold down the fort till the end but it was more of the constant reminder of why the Amare and Diaw were not on the court. Even if they were to pull that one out they would still have had a heck of a battle fighting the fatiuge of game 5.

And boy, in the last few minutes, how much did Nash miss Amare? I mean talk about frustration of watching Nash drive in while Duncan did not have anybody else to worry about. It's like they had totally hand-cuffed Nash while the rest of the Suns were standing around. Tough game boys.

PS nothing new here, Bowen... that guy is the ultimate chump

Where is basketball karma when the nation needs it?

If Bowen was white, y'all'd be calling him a "hard nosed" player.
ie. John Stockton, Mark Madsen, "janitor" Cardnal, and Matt Harpring.

Let's stop the double standards folks.

No, I think Nash is the "hard-nosed" player. Har...

Joking aside, I don't think accusations of racism are pertinent here.

I guess you wouldn't understand. I've had to listen to people talk in codes about ball players all my life. Why is it, all the"smart or heady" players are white? Do you believe that? Why can't Bowen be discribed as "hard nosed". As in much of life, us black folks are losing the PR wars.

This is obviously really tricky territory, but as for the guys you mentioned, here are my verdicts for each:

Bowen - dirty

Stockton - dirty (he is lucky he didn't play in the YouTube era; we would have approximately 197 videos of him hitting people in the nuts)

Madsen - Clumsy and over-caffeinated

The Janiter - slightly dirty (more when he was at Purdue) and slightly clumsy

Harpring - violent, not quite dirty (I've never seen him strategically try to hurt another player, but his general rugby style of play is certainly harm enough)

And there are plenty of white guys who have been labeled as dirty players over the years. Bill Laimbeer is obviously the kingpin, but Jungle Jim Luscotoff comes immediately to mind as well.

In fact, when I think of the dirtiest players ever, it is pretty much Laimbeer, Luscotoff, Mahorn, Stockton, and maybe Oakley.

At least for me, race has absolutely nothing to do with it.

(And with that said, while I won't deny that Bowen is hard-nosed - he certainly is that - he is also dirty as can be.)

I didn't see shady "accidents" keep happening around those white players you mentioned.

Bowen, on the other hand, ....
