It All Comes Down to This

160 games in the books. Records knotted at 94-66. Two more to play in Fenway to decide the AL East title. The chance to see if the big Randy Johnson trade was worth it for the Yankees. How is it even possible that the Yankees-Red Sox rivalry can constantly grow more dramatic each year? In 2003 they fought (literally and figuratively) through a wild seven-game ALCS that ended with Aaron "Bleepin" Boone's 10th inning walkoff home run and featured things like Pedro throwing down Zimmer, Grady Little blowing the series by leaving Pedro in too long in Game 7, and Roger Clemens getting roughed up and knocked out early in what looked like it would be the final game of his career (remember that?). Then last year ... I don't even have the energy to recap it. Now it is 2005 and the heat is turned up another notch, because this time, someone might not even make the postseason. I figured this kind of drama was as good of a reason as any to fire up the blog again. So consider this your home for MLB Postseason chatter. We'll be blogging our way through it, from the final weekend of the regular season to the final pitch of the World Series. Enjoy.

You didn't even give us a prediction. Come on, sack up. Who do you have winning it?

I've got the Yankees winning today (Johnson dominates, Wakefield gets shelled) and Indians winning today (Westbrook is their best big game pitcher), leaving the Sox one game back in the AL East and tied for the Wild Card going into the final day of the season tomorrow. Then I think Schilling finds a way against Mussina and the Indians win in dramatic fashion in the bottom of the 9th creating the three-way tie we've heard so much about. And because that would leave the Sox with either Arroyo and Clement to pitch the playoff games (first the AL East playoff, then the WC), I think they are the odd man out.

Johnson isn't looking too dominant, buddy. Gave up a two-run blast to Manny in the first and loaded the bases in the second before catching a stroke of good luck and getting to pitch to Renteria (who is absolutely clueless up there) to get out of it. Watch the game, Johnson is laboring out there.

Dude, I liked your picks for the AL awards. Big Papi! Not sure about Street over Cano, but I liked it, because the Yankees suck major shlong. Please tell me that your display of common sense will continue when it comes to the NL MVP and that you won't be picking Andruw "I only hit home runs in blowouts" Hones for that award. That dude has had the most meaningless 120+ RBI season I can remember. Pick Lee or Pujols or anyone but Jones.

By the way, Westbrook just got tagged for four runs in the 7th. Before that you were looking good with the Big Game Jake prediction. Now? Not so much.

Keep up the good work with the columns. Glad to see the blog is back in effect.

By the way, you need a new Tobias picture complete with bloody hair plugs.

Good call on the new pic. I'll try to find one. As for Unit, unfortunately I couldn't "watch" him to see how he was throwing, because Fox has their stupid regional coverage in place so the White Sox-Indians game is on instead (even though it is already broadcast via local coverage). Ridiculous. Seems like he's throwing pretty well though, judging by the box score.
