The Robert Horry Game

Superman
to the rescue
We've had the Flu Game, the Magic Hook Shot Game, and so many other classic Finals performances ... add Horry's Game Five, 2005 to the list. 21 of the last 35 Spurs points, ridiculous threes, high-flying dunks, and the game winner. Not bad. Of course, it never should have come to that when you factor in the awful officiating and the ridiculous double-team by Sheed, but the fact is, this will forever be Horry's game.

I'd like to say, for the record, that I predicted Horry's final three about 17 times last night. First, when I said, "this is going down as the Robert Horry game ... we know how this one is going to turn out, the storyline is set," in the fourth quarter. Also, when I mentioned "whatever they do, they can't let Horry shoot," "I know Horry is going to hit this," "make someone else besides Horry hit a three," and "What is Rasheed doing, he's going to leave Horry to go double team in the corner!" Those all came out of my mouth in a three minute span. Seriously. You could see it coming from a mile away.

Also, everyone is killing Sheed for that double-team, but didn't it look like a set defensive play? I mean, he went right over there. You have to consider that Larry Brown told him to do that, which makes Brown the idiot, not Rasheed. We may never know.

Tim Duncan owes Robert Horry an Escalade, with spinners on dubs. Duncan had a solid three quarters, then turned into Tony Massenburg. That 1.5 foot tip-in at the end of regulation missed by 1 foot. 1-7 free throws in the 4th? Shaq could do that shooting with his feet.

Horry's game last night was better than any of his clutch shots with the Lakers and Houston because he carried the entire Spurs team when it was clear that no one else on his team had the cojones to handle the pressure. In LA, Kobe and Shaq would keep the games close until the Fresh Prince could step in and hit the three at the end of the game. Same with Cassell and Olajuwon in Houston. Duncan, Parker, and Ginobili crumbled (though Ginobili not as much as the other two). Great game.

How's LA Hoff?

Hey everyone. I didn't die ... just have been away from any internet access for three days. Tomorrow we'll get this beast back on the road. Fresh posts for the draft and some wrap up on the Spurs lucky Finals victory.

I'll leave you with one question. Which is the biggest storyline: San Antonio winning the title or San Antonio realizing that they wasted $90 million on Tony Parker?
